On our way to my youngest sister’s Birthday lunch today… this little boy said he wanted to wear a tie today.

I sometimes forget the influence mums have on their kids…

I started watching Sherlock 3 weeks ago and have been re-watching bits here and there.. Sometimes my 8- year old son’s in my room drawing or writing or reading or just playing while I’m watching..

Just overheard him inventing a song with words pertaining to Sherlock.

As in… he’s using:

221 B Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes, John Watson and…. the funniest part — He kept saying MICROSOFT Holmes :D

Bought my son a blank binder for the roll of blank papers he got months ago, and a set of colored markers…

I know he’s been obssessed with Space and he loves to draw.

Came home today, to this.

Finally catching the London Olympics closing ceremony..

and my son’s busy doing his drawings of the Solar System..

he heard Jessie J’s “Ain’t about the Money’”…

I was in hysterics when I heard him sing OUT LOUD:

Ugh! ba-bling-ba-bling!

and he sang that without taking his eyes off his paper and markers… hahahhaa oh Music.

So the little one’s been stuck in bed with fever the past 2 days… And these kept him entertained.

He just keeps reading all these space/planets books and kept explaining stuff to me that even I find so dorky and geeky… But I soooo love him for that! :p

Proud momma moment, I’m getting emotional!

I got to go home early yesterday so I decided to pick up my son from school (which was literally beside our house :p)

I haven’t been there for a while, so it was a joy to come in and have his classmates and friends come up to me and say rather excitedly:
“Hey! You’re Ziggy’s mom!”
“Hi! Aren’t you Ziggy’s mom? I’m Ziggy’s friend!”

It was sooo cute and heartwarming! Im brimming with pride at how many kids just love him, and by association - Me!

Today, I just received a message from one of the moms saying -

My daughter’s asking what she can give your son for his birthday - because he is her favorite friend who happens to be a boy— but she insists she doesn’t have a crush on him because they’re too young. She really adores your son and would like to surprise him with something he will really like.

I am such a proud momma right now!

tears building up! Haha

By the way, this is the 4th girl classmate claiming my son as their best boy friend. Adorable!

My little man turned 8 today (5pm today, to be exact).

Allow me to get a little sentimental because I just realized that I’ve been raising him alone for half of his life… That for the more conscious half of his life, he had and knew only me as his parent.

It was tough. Ages 4 to 8 is not easy at all. Especially when you’re raising a boy, after growing up with 3 sisters - no brothers. I had to do a lot of research and I was always in doubt about how I’m raising him.

I had to show him everything was alright even though I was crumbling into a million little pieces when his father left. I had to show him that we were doing great even though I couldn’t sleep thinking about where we’re going to get our money for his school, our food, the rent… when I had to quit work because I just couldn’t keep it together. I was so scared I’d give in and give up on life altogether and he’d grow up to be one of those annoying and troubled kids who would do anything to get attention.

Looking back, I cannot believe how well I did. I have to say it out and be proud about the fact that I’ve raised such a good boy. I’ve trained him to be independent and considerate and loving.

He’s always been such a sweet and affectionate boy, but his teachers and other people would always commend me and tell me that he’s always “protective” of the girls in his class. He’d walk away when someone was picking a fight with him and he’d brush it off if someone intentionally hurt him. In fact, during school plays and moving up / graduation days, parents come up to me saying: “so this is the boy my son/daughter’s been talking about!”. It fills my heart with joy hearing the stories they have to tell about my son.

Sometimes I’m even afraid he’s too nice and too soft, that believe it or not - i tell him to try and fight sometimes. :p

He’s smart. I know he is. Not just saying that because he’s my son. He saw a children’s “dictionary/encyclopedia” book on my shelves and read all about the solar system and started yapping to me about how which planet was bigger, and which one had so and so moons, and which was full of gas or full of ice.

He loves to read. I wish he read more fiction and storybooks, but I have no problem with his interest in facts and science books. he’ll be fine.

He loves music. In fact, he LOVES John Mayer as much as I do.

At 8 - he cares enough about more profound things most kids don’t even think about. He worries about me not having a husband. He often tells me that WE need to find ME a new husband.

I just cannot believe he’s 8! He’s 8! I feel old. but proud and happy that I can say he’s mine and whatever good he does (as much as the bad) is a direct reflection of MY parenting and MY examples. So far, I’m hearing the good. Thank God!

On one of our weekend out-of-town trips when my parents were home… we spent one weekend on the mountains. It rained most of the night and the day before we went back to the city, we went to this Chapel at the top of mountain. The scenery was so lusciously green because of the rain and the weather was perfect :)
